There ya go. It’s being reiterated on the forums about these set bonuses. You can only hope Blizzard listens to reason and math and rethinks a lot of the new set bonuses.

It won’t though. Think about a wolf for a second (since they’re top DPS for now).

Pet focus regeneration is 5 per second (per Shandara’s spreadsheet). Bite is 25 focus per 1.25 seconds (pet’s GCD), as well as 20 focus per 40 seconds (so .5 focus per second) for Furious Howl. That adds up to 20.5 focus per second out, and only 5 per second in. Halve the focus costs, and you still have 10.25 per second out and 5 per second in. Your pet will still be starved without 1/2 GFtT or 2/2 Bestial Discipline (hell, 2/2 BD still won’t be enough – you’ll be 0.25 Focus/second in the red).

It is the epitome of a useless set bonus. It’s sad.

And the 4-piece ain’t much better, either :P

It makes sense, when you think about it, as pathetic as it is.

PVPers are content with a little box with a couple of pillars and maybe some fire or something stupid. Raiders demand significantly more. So by catering to the lolrena crowd, they get a decent chunk of change while slashing their budget for development. More money.

I think the 2-piece is a replacement for our 1 point in Go for the Throat. Halving the costs simply removes the need for the extra focus regen. With instant abilities our pets are still subject to the global cooldown and as long as the natural regen with half cost allows no cooldown abilities to be chain cast it makes the talent unneeded.

However if the set bonus isn’t enough to allow us to drop that single point after the math is done for it, the bonus will provide no DPS increase for us at all.

As for the 4-piece. Seems like Blizzard went through all the DPS classes, picked an ability and made the 4-piece a crit bonus.

Unfortunately the days of BC BM raiding is long gone and it is a mediocre DPS increase at best.

“I don’t want to jump the gun and say this all that we will see in terms of changes for our class. 3.2 is a ways off I think and there is plenty of tiem for Blizzard to address PvE DPS concerns as well as the admittedly low Hunter representation in Arenas.”

I think we’ll see a lot more changes once the the Hunter Q&A on the official forums is complete. Maybe this is the patch where we won’t have to radically alter our playstyle. Maybe :D
