Due to bugs on Tuesday last week, we never got around to killing Ignis the Furnace Master. Well, not this week! Enjoy the video!
You can see the WWS I recorded from last night right here. I was well on my way to breaking 6k DPS on Deconstructor until a couple of us got blown up by someone who didn’t see they had a debuff.
I removed the Add-on part so as not to detract from the video. It will be re-posted later.

Hey
I can’t really say if curse should or not block wow matrix, but I can understand them. They say [1][2] WM was really abusing their services, but I never checked.
However, I disagree with you on WM footprint. I tried a few days, and it was a headache. It will install itself in “documents and settings” without telling you anything, download everything in there, and there is no option to change it. My roaming profile went from a minute or so to load to several minutes until I discovered what was happening. I tried to relocate this folder, but WM insisted on recreating everything in “documents and settings”.
It’s sad because, after I ditched WM, I had found a good enough automated updater : WUU [3][4]. It worked just as I wanted, more or less, and was free (zlib license). No ads, somewhat slow when updating, support for major sites (curse, wowi). Unfortunately, killing WM, killed WUU also :( .

I love your blog! But unfortunately I have to disagree with your stance:
Curse and WM are 2 very different business models. Curse is a repository for addon developers to house and distribute there addons free of charge. They (curse) pay for the storage and the bandwidth to do so and support that by the adds that are displayed on the Curse site. If you use a 3rd party client they gain absolutely nothing from it but the bill.
WM on the other hand is nothing more than a client that builds on someone elses business model. Curse had to nix the WM client because it simply cost them too much to support! The client was great but none of the content was there own.
Does Curse need a better client? ABSOLUTELY!!!!!!! Should we be mad at them for protecting there revenue stream? Not at all. After all, they have to eat too.
You deciding not to use any addons that Curse hosts does nothing negative to them. Are they going to lose revenue from you visiting the site? No! You didn’t visit the site when you were using there supplied addons so the loss there is nil.
Basically, you are the only person with anything to lose.
Can’t wait for the next article and thanks for doing the blog, it is a great read!
I
@James Technically I am losing something, but it is just a new display of information I already have access to.
I would challenge someone to find a person who uses Curse for just their articles. They are hosting add-ons and I am willing to wager most of the community uses them for that and that only. They are not a necessary entity by any means in my opinion. They are only useful by hosting someone’s content.
Would I like to make money from my site one day? Sure. But I also embrace how people want information distributed. Fully syndicated RSS, data available when someone wants it, etc. Not having to click through to sites, force page counts by using one page for each view. The list goes on.
And this applies to Curse. Being the only option doesn’t make you relevant. It just makes you the only option. Make people want to use your option rather than trying to force it down their throats.
In all honesty, your refusal to download addons from Curse will probably have no impact. You would have to incite a revolt of some sort to make them open up the files they have stored. Which they would probably stop doing that “service” or attempt to fuse with WoWMatrix before they ever let WoWMatrix leech off them.
Personally I don’t use Curse, or anything like it, to download stuff, I’d much rather pick up things of importance from the addon’s official site, or even WoWAce. Hell I didn’t even know Curse did anything besides store files until now.
@Shmii I am sure my refusal to download won’t phase them at all. And any mods that actually have an official site or are released under certain licenses are still able to be downloaded by WoW Matrix.
But I stopped buying music when the music industry the best way to preserve their money was to sue people rather than to innovate. I’ll do the same with my add-ons.
When we kill Auriaya tonight, my video will show my doing with only add-ons I can get through WM.
Hey,
Love your vids (and the music). I’ve noticed your dot/CD timer in a few of them and my Hunter is about to hit 80 today… I was wondering what the addon is?
@Ablimoth In the videos its Power Auras.
I rocked over 6k last night on 10man Deconstructor. 2 other guildes got over 6k as well.

Hello,
Did you simply use /combatlog to start your WWS parse? I found a work around for logerhead on curse but havent had a chance to test it yet.
high five @ the video ;) and the song wasnt bad either
wws seems good, kologarn a bit lower than me as BM and xt a lot higher, but that has to be expected as u didnt ve to bomb. Ignis fight is so lovely, just stand and fight and as BM its super petfriendly but next week i am gonna try MM to see how my dps go.
thanks for the vid and i dont really understand the discussion here with the addons and stuff, everyone should do what he thinks is right as long as he doesnt hurt anyone ;)
regards
@Andre Yeah, I just typed /combatlog and started it manually.
@Whylde I originally had a large chunk of text explaining my views on the whole add-on situation but opted to remove them temporarily so it didn’t take the focus off the video.
