That’s right! Last night I was able to become Drotara of the Nightfall. Not only did we get the guilds first melee/physical DPS group kill, it allowed me to get a Plagued Proto-Drake.
It wasn’t a one-shot by any means. But other than replacing a couple people who had to leave due to real-life calling, everyone stuck it out for 19 wipes and a kill coming on the 20th attempt. You can see the WWS right here. On the final kill my DPS was low, which a lot can be contributed to Khagan eating a flame breath from a drake during a repositioning because of flame wall. Check it out:
If you can, watch the video in HD because I think it rendered quite nicely in comparison to my other videos. I was pretty excited. Originally I wasn’t going to get in the group this week, but I opted to hang out in Vent while I was on an alt. Not 5 minutes later they popped in the channel and asked if I wanted to come. And the rest, as they say, is history!
Pretty good week all in all. We cleared 3-drake Sartharion, Eye of Eternity, and Naxxramas all on Tuesday and I was able to finish Glory of the Raider on Thursday.
As for the UI, you can see my Power Auras at work pretty well. Green means mana is above 90%, blue means Aspect of the Viper is on, yellow means I am dangerously low on mana, and red is Lock and Load.
Now for the weekend . . .

Congratulations, drotara!!! Be proud of yourself, you deserve it!!!
Out of shear curiosity, why not rez your pet after the drakes went down? Judging by the spec / gear on the armory it should have been 9 seconds of DPS lost with much more to gain, which should easily compensate.
With a pet topped off, a Flash of Light or two and a Mend pet, it should get them through a flame wave just fine as well. Or in the case of your composition, a druid hot / Regrowth should keep it going well.
Of course I don’t know what stress your healers were under (Only done 2D and I have minimal raid healing experience), and a it’s still a great accomplishment either way, I’m just curious.
Well after the drakes were down we were pretty much in the clear as long as people stayed out of flame walls and stupid things. At that point we were already through the hard part so in the end the 9 seconds or so to rez the pet really wouldn’t have made a difference.
And our healers were pretty taxed. I wasn’t sure how much mana they had so I just did my thing. It did kinda suck one of the few attempts Khagan died happened to be the kill. :)
And thanks. :)
I could certainly understand that. Once again though, congrats, pretty big “W” right there.
Awesome stuff. Very nice video and grats on your Glory of the Raider!
Congratulations!
That can’t have been easy at all. I think it’s needless to say this, but I want that drake!!
Too bad I’ll never get it. Oh well, there’s still the blue one!

I’d also like to say that the fight looked like crazy amounts of fun, and I wish I could have been there.

could tweak your movement part to gain some dps but u guys killed it so who cares.
at the beginning i just thought “why no metallica” hehe, btw u did the parsing for the wws or ? if so, does it eat a lot of cpu resources to do so ?
Yeah, I did my own combat logging. I have never noticed a performance decrease when logging combat. Yeah, there was a lot of extra movement on my part. Paranoid about firewalls and things like that. :)
And thanks. :)
@ Drotara: Grats! I got my GotR done this week too. I did kind of expect to get it done much sooner as I had OS3D and the other rather hard achievementparts done at the start of the year, but I did the misstake to get my warrior to 80 and being inexperienced in having an alt at max level (first one since i rerolled class some years ago to my hunter from said warrior) made me miss the Nax runs people did 4H achievement.
All done now though! While i dont care much for the ach points, I really do feel happy with a faster mount. Now just getting that cursed Immortal achievement done and GotHR will be done aswell! With 4 weeks in a row with a late death on a single or two raidmembers (I’ve been lucky to not be the cause of such) dying near the end – I really do want that Immortal ach. done sooner than later.
Whylde: as Drotara mentioned, logging doesnt take much on your computer. I personally have huge FPS problems so I run without recount and also have deleted all filters in my combatlog (found that it helped alot, thank you Kisla, Inner Sanctum, who gave me the advise).
Is anyone on the PTR and can give some info about FPS in ulduar vs old content?
Only turn on recount when i hit the dummy on any other occasion its turned off. i am gonna try out the combatlog thing u mentioned as i suffer from low fps myself, sometimes its hard to keep your shots up even if u faceroll :-)
On PTR ulduar10 my dps was “ok”, its still ptr, lags sometimes…oh and i am on europe ptr, dont know how its going down on the american ones. fps was kinda ~20-30 on that mentioned 10 men raid. but with an empty instance and only the boss there’s not much that could fuck up fps
@Whylde: Agreed, perhaps in fights such as Freiya will pull those 20-30 fps down somewhat I’d guess. I used to have 2-8 fps in fight such as OS3D and Malygos, 6-10 fps on PW and alike fights. I should really just buy a new computer (saving up the money takes time). :)
What I did was to delete all the filters available in the combatlog settings, leaving the last settings only show ‘kills’ and ‘deaths’.
This gave me 5-10 fps more depending on fights, which is still way low (os3d is still a slideshow but doable due to have done it so many times) and I am still trying to work out a new addonsetup that might allow me to gain a few more.
I was meaning to check PTR myself (im european too) but just haven’t had the time yet.
best regards
Shanx – silvermoon.
Big gratz on the achivement and your new kickass mount. =)
I have been doing a few tries to do this achivement and i always have to move all the time and it really makes my dps suffer. Those damned voidzones are out to get me! =/
I was wondering, you used a dps pet. I always bring my bear with me to help our maintank with Roar of Sacrifice during the flamebreath. After i took a look at your video it don’t seem nessicary. What setup did you use here and how did you counter the flamebreath?
Lis @ Twilight’s Hammer (EU)
1. grats!!!!
2. LOL @ toon name “uglybear”
ahahahaha. Love it.
Averna’s last blog post..New glyphs on sale in Dalaran!
@Lis I actually offered to bring my gorilla for for Roar of Sacrifice but they turned it down. We had our Priest use Guardian Spirit during the first super breath with the DPS required to bring that drake down as fast as possible. Truth be told, a LOT of our wipes that night were because of the breath.
Wow, that’s just awesome. Congrats Drotara. My guild tried OS3D this week and in our best attempt we got 2 of the drakes down. Unfortunately we couldn’t manage to get the achievement. Well, there’s always next week.
@Drotara It’s great to see that it can be done without Roar of Sacrifice. That’s one less thing to worry about. Gonna persuade our raid leader to maybe use a different raid setup to counter the flame breath. Maybe i can convince a paladin to spec in Divine Guardian so i can bring my kitty. =)
Thanks for the video, and a peek at Power Auras. I’ve been thinking of switching from Ghost Pulse to Power Auras, but PA’s configuration seemed a bit daunting. Also seems to be well worth it ;)
Can you set up an aura that shows when Kill Shot is available and off-cooldown? Same would go for Arcane Shot; those are two that I constantly watch for.
@Caerdwyn You sure can. You can actually see in the video when my Kill Shot pops up about being usable. Just as Rapid Fire pops up when I am in combat and its not on cooldown. It’s very diverse once you take the time to mess with it.
I downloaded Power Auras after seeing your ui; I’ve been looking for a mod to do exactly that. However, the effects just don’t seem to get triggered.
My guild is currently trying to get this down as well and I just had a couple questions. Did your Ret Pally heal during the Vesperon? Did he also heal when you guys went through (assuming one of your warriors or the DK tanked the adds in the portal)? As for the the Whelps / Fire Elementals, did everyone pitch in on damage when you started to AoE them down?
@shanx
i just found some stuff u might be interested in
Macro these things into 3 macros
Macro#1
/console ffx 0
/console hwPCF 1
/console shadowlod 0
/console timingmethod 1
/console showshadow 0
/console showfootprints 0
/console showfootprintparticles 0
Macro#2
/console overridefarclip 0
/console farclip 177
/console horizonfarclip 1305
/console detailDoodadAlpha 0
/console groundeffectdensity 16
Macro#3
/console groundeffectdist 1
/console smallcull 1
/console skycloudlod 1
/console characterAmbient 1
/console extshadowquality 0
/console environmentDetail 0.5
even after putting the slider at the grafic settings towards “low” with these changes i got nearly 15dps increase @dalaran which is huge for me as it always takes ages to move from tavern to portal etc. no raid today so cant speak about how it works in a raid.
To make those changes go away u either restart wow or simply put a default as value i.e. /console environmentdetail default
regards
@heritykl We had the Shaman cast a couple chain heals while we were down in the portal and it was everyone’s job to help AoE down the adds.
Congratualtions!
I enjoyed watching the video…best of all the music didn’t drive me away. Would you mind telling which songs are used?
Thanks!
Dro is too modest. After we theory crafted the group, they went in there and worked till they got it done. I lol a little at his modesty. The hours of wiping were probably worth it, but couldn’t have been fun.
Amazing movie. The HD is great, but the fact that you are the only ranged in the group means that there is an unusual amount of open space which allows the viewer to really see what is going on.
Hawbbes’s last blog post..Forum Post: Props to Drotara for his movie making skillz
@Kite Sure, it was Tantric – Down and Out, and Metallica – Fuel (from their amazingly awesome S&M CD)

@Whylde:
Thanks alot man! We are going to do another Immortal attempt tonight, will make sure to try it out and see what happens. Again, thanks alot. Will post here to let you know how it went.
Quick question though: With those macros used, do i need to do a reload for the changes to take effect?
nope, after pressing them u might see a change directly
Congrats man!!!!! I just got this achievement in the past week as well!!!! Sarth 10 man 3D is a real tough fight and only a skilled group can do it! Hopefully we can both get the Heroic version before 3.1!!!! Awesome video as well!

Grats old buddy good job :)
GZ! awesome goodness
@Whylde: worked like a charm! I guess I will increase the viewdistance when not inside instance though ;) But my FPS in general took a 5 fps jump which for me during bosses is a 30-50% increase depending on which one.
It naturally also helped my dps up; PW dps was like it usually is, some reason i have a problem pushing past 5.3k nowadays. But at more taxing (FPS wise) bosses I got a few hundred bump in DPS aswell at. Much thanks to your help mate. Much appriciated.
@Drotara; We managed to get Immortal yday. I had almost given up – So nice to finally get it done and complete Heroic: GotR. :)
Wish you luck on that one, but as you’re on a roll allready with some major Ach allready completed, shouldnt take too long unless you’re unlucky (and immortal is pretty much dependent on the absence of bad luck, so many things that can happen that you cant do anything about).
gz, glad it helpled, and yea, viewing distance is the thing i change when i am outside of an instance aswell :)
@Shanx Ooo, wow. Big grats on that! Now that is awesome to have. I think we are going to make an honest effort for that tonight. We’ll see how it goes. :)
/sigh i was looking forward to a photshoot and getting to stand next to Drotara in his leet blog =(
Good stuff man, I’ll check out your vid when i get home tonight on a comp that isnt made of wood. I am really happy RG is working out for you, always sucks to see good hunters in guild limbo.
P.S. Looking at your WWS you actually came out pretty well. Considering you had the highest actual activity and you dont have the benefit of DnD/Pestelence to do alot of the work for you. Your output where it matters(on the drakes) was very high. This simply isn’t a fight where a hunter will run the meters against other equally skilled players as our job doesnt really permit it outside of using multi and a few vollies which it appears your group may have needed you to do.
Also, not using RoS was a good thing as they’re removing it in 3.1(which im sure you know) and getting the fight done without it nets much more actual progress.
Finally downed him. =)
Gonna do Dedicated Few on Sunday and i’ll get the mount. Sweet! xD
