Our guild really has gone on a recruitment spree. And I must say, the quality of players we are recruiting has been fantastic. I think it’s safe to say that we are now in a stronger position than we were before the “falling out.” We grabbed a couple holy Paladins, a Warrior, a Shaman, another geared Death Knight among others. And with Blizzard announcing they have proposed fixes in place to correct the 25-man Naxxramas lag (like removing Thaddius and putting a loot pinata if you can’t kill him in4 minutes? heh) raiding is looking optimistic this coming week.
But what to do until then. Level alts? I am sure I have shared this before, but I am atrocious at leveling alts. I got bored after like 3 quests most of the time. Luckily my Death Knight alt kills things so fast with his Bloodied Arcanite Reaper and Polished Spaulders of Valor that we tear through things pretty quickly. My Priest also has the Tattered Dreadmist Mantle to help out with that leveling. I was also happy to find out that when I logged on dear ‘ol Phuzuda, he had enchanting materials with seemed to have appreciated in his absence. Between the Arcane Dust and Greater Planars he was sitting on, I found about 1,000 gold worth of stuff.
I convinced myself to heal a Blood Furnace even though I was level 65. With my awesome shoulders it still got me almost half a level. Then I got bored and logged off. Then I did 2 quests on my Death Knight. Then I got bored and logged off.
I am just terrible at leveling alts. But in reality, they are a means to an end. My Priest can disenchant stuff, the Death Knight will be able to mine and cut gems. It’s all designed to help fund Drotara. I guess that’s how I also looked at alts. Sure, I generally enjoy leveling. Getting new skills, new talents, yadda yadda. But even when I rolled my very first alt, a Rogue back on Deathwing, her use was only to be a skinner/leatherworker and send Aratar money.
I guess not a lot has changed. Why do you level alts? Do you enjoy having a plethora of characters to choose when you log on? Are they just funding your main’s bad habits? Thoughts, comments, etc. Post ‘em.
For me, I hear Taco Bell has some gordita that involves taco stuffs, cheese, AND bacon. I gotta get in on that action!

I work on alts for two reasons: to have access to new professions, since your main is only allowed to have two. And to experience different aspects of the game.
After trying out all 10 classes, the only survivors are my rogue-which was my first and the only one that I’ve ever raided with, my hunter-who was there just to skin and mine stuff but turned out to be more fun than expected, my priest-that was a 29 twink forever but then got leveled cause I was tired of raiding and had no reason to mine or skin, and lastly my DK, who is just incredibly fun, like a rogue in plate. Between the 4 of them I have 2 miners, a skinner, an herbalist, an inscriptionist, a leatherworker, a BS and an engineer all well over 400. So there’s always something to do.
On the other hand, there is absolutely no way that I will ever roll another toon, unless for some reason I need a horde toon.
Honestly, I don’t think leveling new toons is that rough. What I really hate is rep grinding. It’s not the first time, and even less so the 4th.
PS I sent you a direct message via twitter. Since I’ve never gotten a direct twitter message, I have no idea how prominently it would be displayed. Look for it if you missed it.
I play alts to see how other classes work, and to try them out and see if I like them at all.
That’s how I found my love for Hunters!
I played a druid originally, but then I tried out a hunter…
I am much too lazy to level multiple professions on more than one toon, and that might hurt a lot more than I think it does. I could care less though.
Engineering+mining=i.w.i.n.
Klinderas’s last blog post..Thanks Are In Order
I level alts because I get too frustrated with PUGs to advance my main very far in the end game.
Usually I am content with my hunter(s) but sometimes alts are nice for a change of pace. My resto druid, for example, is for when I am tired of sitting in LFG as a DPS. I hop over to her, get into LFG, say “resto druid LFG Underbog/Slave Pens/Mana Tombs” and I usually get a group invite within about five minutes. Then I get about a third of a level in the instance, when rested, which makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something. It’s sort of a good pick-me-up.
But really, it is very rare that my alts get past level 20.
Pike’s last blog post..Why I Still Find Old Content to Be Fresh
I like to level alts to experience things of the game I might have missed like I have an 80 Night Elf Druid right now and I started to level an Undead Mage who’s 44 and its quite fun to play from the “Horde” point of view it just seems like a whole new game.
I agree with you that leveling alts is boring, but I like to really get involved in the story and fully read through the quests and it makes it quite enjoyable. Also talking with guildies on vent always gets a laugh.
Hehe, speaking of alts… I posted a new picture on our webpage today. http://au.divine.no/
The top one is me controlling 3 and my firend controlling 2 hunters each. I can safely say that we has a fun!
Multiboxing? Try it, its totally worth it!
*Peace, out*
10 characters, all but one are 60 or higher, damn shaman stuck at 58. Druids been my main character since BC, so he was the first I got to 80, and now after the initial instance and arena rush are basically over, I’m going back and leveling the others a bit. Why? It’s nice to be able to arena with old friends who don’t play often without having to drop my main arena team, and of course the access to extra professions.
But really, it’s mostly so that I’ll eventually have the FOTM OP arena class ready at all times to be able to “faceroll” my way to 2k+ all the time! Only 9 characters to get to 80 now!
I enjoy playing my DK, but for the moment he’s mostly a distraction/farmbot. Skinning/mining ftw, and he makes me happy when I get fed up with random bad dps in pug raids and the like. Got a druid still chillin at 70, herb/alchemy, which shall be my next farmbot. Just the act of questing in Northrend is a huge amount of cash.
Alts are a few things for me. I hate relying on other people, so I level alts for professions. Currently the only ones I don’t have at LK levels are Eng and BS. Eng is the only one I’d like to have for Rem, but… it’s attached to a 21 Rogue, and I can’t get into that class.
They also help me learn how to be the best player I can. Having a Resto Druid that also raided helped my understand how the entire raid works, not just the pewpew part. It also helps alleviate boredom, gives me something completely different to learn and do.
I’ve also used alts to hide from drama. My last guild, I have 3 70s in, one of who I leveled to avoid people from the guild prior to this, and a shammy that I was leveling to be my inscriber and needed to hit 55 by 3.0. They never knew about the Mage, that was at 55 and was my JC alt.
Leveling is a skill. You can kite Zombie Chow, I can level. =p Right now, I’d rather be better at the Zombies.
I play alts for a change of pace and also to understand other classes better. I feel that a better understanding of class and role helps with group and raid play.
I’m no Yaksha so I only have four characters at 70+ (Druid, Hunter, Mage, Paladin)
