I am down to the last 18 bubbles to level 80. I was able to knock out half of 77 and all of 78 last night tearing through the Storm Peaks. I picked up a bunch of Lichbloom and Icethorn along the way as well. It helped me get my Alchemy to 429. It should have been at 430 but the person who wanted to take me up on my free meta gem transmute never showed up. I also *finally* found a Huge Spotted Feltail so I was able to knock out one more of the cooking recipes I need for The Outland Gourmet. Unfortunately the last 2 recipes that are eluding me are ones that I can only get from killing mobs in the Outlands or doing more of the Rokk’s cooking quests and hoping it comes from the barrel of fish.
I am torn between finishing level 79 in Storm Peaks or moving on to Icecrown. I didn’t finish all of Zul’Drak either, leaving the quest achievements uncompleted. I did manage to complete those for Dragonblight, Sholazar Basin, and Grizzly Hills. I am quite partial to leaving for Icecrown though, since it wasn’t open till really late in the beta so I never got to experience it ahead of time.
My spec is currently shaping up to be a 60/11 MM build in it’s current implementation. I will get that last point at 80 which I will probably put into Improved Stings to finish off the three. But when it comes time to raid I think I might have to adjust it again. Right now I have Scatter Shot, which has been great for all the times I pull aggro off my pet. I honestly don’t know how it will work but I might try this. I get the benefits from Aspect Mastery, Improved Aspect of the Hawk, the crit chance from Survival Instincts and the tracking talent, and all the good talents in MM. MM has been pushing great DPS. My initial instinct tells me this would be more, specifically for PvE, but I will want to try it in-game in a raid DPS situation.
I haven’t given Survival a fair shake yet. After Explosive Shot took a beating from the nerf bat in beta I haven’t been specced into it yet. If you are Survival, what kind of numbers, DPS-wise, have you seen so far, regardless of level.
It looks like we might have lost some people in the transition as Feedburner showed a big drop in subscribers. But then again, it has been finicky in the past so we’ll see if it picks back up. Every now and then people report seeing their subscribers drop drastically only to bounce back a day or so later. I also updated my Google Analytics and submitted a new sitemap to them (among other websites) so it might be taking some time to crawl the new pages. But regardless of numbers, I am glad it got switched over to WordPress and I can focus on blogging rather than where to host files and what not. :)
Thoughts, comments, opinions about specs, or anything else. Post ‘em!

Hmm, interesting build, but with the Aimed shot changes I have been looking at:
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=ctbMzZ0eVbRAzGxogu...for my 80 spec.
I'm pretty much that spec now while grinding. I didn't find imp steady that great, but the dmg bonus to aimed and volley is really nice. As well as wild quiver actually goes off a fair bit.
Some of the points are arguable, but I also didn't find the 4% crit bonus on steady only worthwhile to me nor focused aim for some of the other options.
This is all just from my impressions in 5mans so it could be completely off.
I had tried Surv some post nerf, but haven't given it a chance yet in WotLK and stuff was dying too fast for me pre-patch to get good numbers.
Oh yes, just doing an Aimed/Chimera rotation with steadies to fill.
I was thinking at 80 something like a 50/21/0 to get Readiness.
That's actually what I was leveling up as until 76 and I decided to try MM. Double Bestial Wrath is definitely nice. It still might end up being my spec of choice after putting out some numbers for me to do a personal comparison against specs. With the BW gyph and Longevity BW is almost up at will the cooldown is so short.
Interesting that you took Wild Quiver over Improved Steady Shot. I suppose with a 10% proc rate that it would be going off pretty often. Hmmm . . . decisions.
I was actually playing around with Cheeky's the other day and wound up with a 13/51/7 spec that I was quite happy with. Dumping two points into 8% bonus damage for my pet (Wolf or Wasp for bonus raid buffs and Heart of the Phoenix since it'd die a lot.) Something like this: http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=ctbMzbZceAcRbz0eox...
If you try ISS let me know how it goes for you, I just wasn't seeing the returns on it. Also went with full efficency for faster viper regen time. And all the procs of ISS during viper kinda get wasted since I try not to use chimera to not have to refresh my serpent sting stack after it drops to half-dmg
I used a similar build on the beta to the one your commenting about with 11/53/7. http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=ctbMzZceAbMhzMgog0...
Was the one i used and it performed quite well tied or beat almost every BM hunter i came across on the premade server in 10 and 25 man. Admittedly know tho the ArP point's may be better spent else where.
I'm right behind you (well, maybe not exactly right behind you) on the cooking achievements. Judging by your posts, I'm in for quite a ride. I'm also making some headway with the fishing achievements…don't know if I want the Chef title or the Salty title… I managed to get "the fishing diplomat" out of the way, but since I'm Alliance, I see a huge problem for me fishing up Old Crafty in Orgrimmar. Any tips for me to get in and out of your home city unscathed…I had a 17g repair bill on my first venture…haha!
In regards to a survival build: I've been a survival hunter since day 1. I'm comfortable with it, so I think I do pretty well. Last time I tracked my DPS in Sholazar Basin, I was putting out about 2,200 or so.
Keep up the good work, I enjoy reading your posts!
Hello~
Just started reading your blog. First off I want to say kudos. A LOT of great info here!
That being said, I was wondering if you were in the mood to give some advice?
I am a recently turned 80 (last Saturday)- I’m a MM hunter
Here is my Talent Spec: The World of Warcraft Armory
My pet is a cat
As you can see my stats are:
2394 AP
24.51% crit
193 Hit
My shot rotation is: Serpent Sting-> Steady- Steady-Chimaera-Arcane- Steady-Steady- Chimaera-Arcane, etc
I try to throw up Hunters Mark as much as possible.
I pop Kill Command, Rapid Fire and my trinkets as often as possible, granted sometimes I might not get them right away…
I toggle between Dragonhawk and Viper between pulls
So, that being said: my dps in raids ranges for 900-tops 1200. And this is just not satisfactory. Not even for heroics. I need advice on what to do. Whether this mostly a gear problem or whether I need to tweak my spec. Should I go BM until I get better gear? Any advice you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated. I just need to up my dps so that I can actually get into Nax raids eventually and start being at the top of the charts vs. below the tank (sometimes, esp if its a paladin right now).
I know I have to replace my bow and I have purchased a gun, [Sawed-off Hand Cannon ]
But I need to get an ammunition pouch….
But besides that, I don’t know like I said I’m desperate for advice/help to get my dps up.
Like I said I don’t know how much of an advice giver you are but any would be greatly appreciated! I’ve been to elitist jerks and am waiting on a response from them as well. But I like the way you break things down~
