So it has definitely been isolated to my video card. I checked for bad sectors on both my hard drives, did a memtest, updated drivers, etc. I even ran a stress test on my other components and everything is working OK. Until I load a 3D app. It did it when I tried to open Counter-Strike as well. I got lucky for about an hour one night without it crashing, which was really weird, but long enough for me to see the bug that was going around in beta.
The multiplicative weapon bug. Any class that has a talent that adds a damage increase with a weapon or critical strike chance would stack as many times as you wanted to take your weapon on and off again. So if my weapon was doing 1400 damage or so on my character sheet, I could take me weapon off, put it back on and it would do 5% more damage. I could then repeat the process and it would add 5% more damage on to the previous total. Give yourself a few minutes and you are doing 3 million damage a hit.
Yes, 3 million. And for kicks and giggles I went and 2-shot the 25 man Obsidian Sanctum boss. > >
And then I crashed. I haven’t tried to log on again so I am not sure if the patched yet or hot-fixed it. So I spent my weekend (OK, maybe like 6 hours total) playing The Force Unleashed on the Wii. Mediocre game. It was enjoyable. No replay value other than the dueling mode with your friends. I am trying to convince my wife we should just build a new computer. But I don’t think she will have any of it.
I gotta get a video card on it’s way to me though. Hard to play WoW (or any game for that matter when you can’t guarantee your machine will stay up.
Thoughts, comments, etc. Sorry about the boring post.
