Beta: The new DPS Tests; World first Malygos video! (I think)

Apparently I should have clarified my true intentions with these tests. Similar to my previous ones, it was showing the state of Hunters currently with what I thought was an obvious focus on mana efficiency. Apparently that was not made clear enough. Blizzard wants numbers and hard testing done, and while it’s easy for people say “This nerf sucks” or “this change was unwarranted”, Blizzard had a reason and in order for it to get changed again, we need to provide the proof.

Conclusion

Ouch. Marksmanship became even less mana efficient with the changes to Steady Shot and the ridiculous mana cost. Being able to DPS for 40 seconds before running out of mana, even considering I have no mana regeneration buffs seems ridiculous. Combine that with 30% of my time being spent in Aspect of the Viper to regen my mana causing my DPS to be 15% lower then what it could be if I was chugging potions. I originally went to Malygos as Marksmanship but after barely pulling down 1200 DPS with the spec, I hearthed to respec Survival just so I would provide useful DPS.

There are obviously something that could be done to increase mana efficiency. I opted out of the Efficiency talent this so I would have the same mana costs for abilities across all specs.

Beast Mastery, without an exotic pet barely pulled in 150 more DPS than what I can do at level 70. Obviously an exotic pet would increase this DPS as well, but given I have 10 levels on my other self, and add in a 117 DPS bow, gear from Sapphiron and other Naxxramas bosses, I would have thought I would have gotten more than 150 DPS. Adding in 10-man buffs against a raid boss in the Obsidian Sanctum my DPS did not change much. In fact it was rather uninspiring.

In the end, Survival is the “winner” of the three spec in my opinion. It had the most longevity in terms of DPS before running out of mana, and due to the “ticking” of Explosive Shot, it also was able to refill my mana the fastest, reducing the time I spent in Aspect of the Viper.

Once again, the numbers are when I was holding completely still. If I was on the run, such as in Arena, Steady Shot for mana regen wouldn’t have been an option. In fact, Auto Shot would hot have been feasible in most cases as well. Couple that with the fact that escape abilities cost upwards of 700 mana in the form of Disengage and the idea of maintaining a mana pool for any reasonable amount of time is out of the question.

Malygos
On a happy note, I think myself and some guildies got the world-first 10-man Malygos kill last night, albeit the encounter seems bugged. Here is a good video of one of our wipes showing all three phases! Enjoy!
