More Survival, Patch Notes, etc.

So our 3s team got to 1702 this week. After playing our games, I asked Xcebin if he noticed a change in how well the team played with the new spec. He pointed out that he felt I was surviving a lot longer. One game, I was beat on by a Rogue and Warrior for most of the match while they were in between Cyclone, Freezing Trap, and Wyvern Sting.

I haven’t run any concrete tests yet, but it does feel that my DPS has gone up in instances. I haven’t run any real raids yet other than a few attempts on Jan’alai, but in heroic Arcatraz, my DPS was sitting at 720 or so with only 5-man buffs. And the only significant one from that was Leader of the Pack. This week I hope to get in to a more complete Zul’Aman and Karazhan groups to test my DPS in a raid setting.

I am feeling rather underwhelmed with the 2.4 patch notes. So let’s see the good things for the Hunter crowd:

* Equipping a thrown weapon while in the middle of an Auto-Shot will no longer cause animation issues.
* Casting Flare while in any way not visible, will no longer cause your flare to be invisible to other players.
* The stamina tooltip for hunter pets will now display the proper health increase.

Friggin’ sweet! But to be fair, there are some nice changes. For example, diminishing returns on honor has been removed and honor calculations now happen instantly. They also added a nasty debuff to WSG flag carriers.

+ When both flags are held, the flag carriers will receive 50% increased damage done to them after approximately 10 minutes and 100% increased damage after approximately 15 minutes.

But we will see if this actually helps WSG stalemates. Attunements have been removed from Mount Hyjal and Black Temple, which isn’t that big a deal. It just makes it easier for raiding guilds to bring along new members. But than again, attunements always seemed pretty ridiculous to me. If a guild/raid can zone in a raid instance and kill the mobs there, more power to them.

You can now chat-link spells and talents, which is a nice addition but mostly frivolous. I have already touched on how Doom Lord Kazzak and Doomwalker will now have all their loot Bind-On-Equip.

And of course, we can’t forget the new legendary bow:

While I may never see it equipped on my character, but it seems . . . not legendary. The bow was designed as to not need an Ammo Pouch/Quiver. It has a built-in 15% speed increase that doesn’t stack with Pouches or Quivers. The the kicker is, it doesn’t use ammo. It shoots magic arrow/MIND BULLETS (“That’s telekinesis Kyle!”) removing the need for ammo. But at the same time, once you factor in the the ability to use Timeless Arrows the actual DPS from the Black Bow of the Betrayer and Bristleblitz Striker becomes almost exactly even to the legendary bow. The Black Bow “technically” has higher DPS, by .1 :) Aimed Shot will hit tons harder. Steady Shot is going to see a nice damage increase. But when it comes down to it, it’s nothing amazing until we can see actual numbers from its performance.

You will still see people using Thunderfury at 70. For some folks, Sulfuras lasted till like 65. But as soon as Wrath of the Lich King hits, or whenever Blizzard decides to create new ammo, the legendary gets passed up by Black Bow and Bristleblitz again.

But who knows. I guess we will see once someone gets it.
